Vertex Sequences Induced by Chains1

چکیده
In the three preliminary sections to the article we define two operations on finite sequences which seem to be of general interest. The first is the cut operation that extracts a contiguous chunk of a finite sequence from a position to a position. The second operation is a glueing catenation that given two finite sequences catenates them with removal of the first element of the second sequence. The main topic of the article is to define an operation which for a given chain in a graph returns the sequence of vertices through which the chain passes. We define the exact conditions when such an operation is uniquely definable. This is done with the help of the so called two-valued alternating finite sequences. We also prove theorems about the existence of simple chains which are subchains of a given chain. In order to do this we define the notion of a finite subsequence of a typed finite sequence.

Bounding cochordal cover number of graphs via vertex stretching
It is shown that when a special vertex stretching is applied to a graph, the cochordal cover number of the graph increases exactly by one, as it happens to its induced matching number and (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity. As a consequence, it is shown that the induced matching number and cochordal cover number of a special vertex stretching of a graph G are equal provided G is well-covered bipa...
متن کاملVertex Decomposable Simplicial Complexes Associated to Path Graphs
Introduction Vertex decomposability of a simplicial complex is a combinatorial topological concept which is related to the algebraic properties of the Stanley-Reisner ring of the simplicial complex. This notion was first defined by Provan and Billera in 1980 for k-decomposable pure complexes which is known as vertex decomposable when . Later Bjorner and Wachs extended this concept to non-pure ...
متن کاملOn list vertex 2-arboricity of toroidal graphs without cycles of specific length
The vertex arboricity $rho(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of subsets into which the vertex set $V(G)$ can be partitioned so that each subset induces an acyclic graph. A graph $G$ is called list vertex $k$-arborable if for any set $L(v)$ of cardinality at least $k$ at each vertex $v$ of $G$, one can choose a color for each $v$ from its list $L(v)$ so that the subgraph induced by ev...
متن کاملThe eccentricity sequences of Fibonacci and Lucas cubes
The Fibonacci cube Γn is the subgraph of the hypercube induced by the binary strings that contain no two consecutive 1’s. The Lucas cube Λn is obtained from Γn by removing vertices that start and end with 1. The eccentricity of a vertex u, denoted eG(u) is the greatest distance between u and any other vertex v in the graph G. For a given vertex u of Γn we characterize the vertices v such that d...
متن کاملVertex Equitable Labeling of Double Alternate Snake Graphs
Let G be a graph with p vertices and q edges and A = {0, 1, 2, . . . , [q/2]}. A vertex labeling f : V (G) → A induces an edge labeling f∗ defined by f∗(uv) = f(u) + f(v) for all edges uv. For a ∈ A, let vf (a) be the number of vertices v with f(v) = a. A graph G is said to be vertex equitable if there exists a vertex labeling f such that for all a and b in A, |vf (a) − vf (b)| ≤ 1 and the indu...
